Titre: Evolution of the Penetration Test Lifecycle
Auteur(s): ATSAMNIA, ABderraouf; SENOUCI, IBrahim
Résumé: Penetration testing remains a fundamental practice for assessing the security posture of
modern information systems. Traditional methodologies, such as the Penetration Testing
Execution Standard (PTES), NIST SP 800-115, and the OWASP Web Security Testing
Guide, provide structured phase-based approaches to security assessment. However, these
frameworks were designed for relatively static environments and rely heavily on sequential
workflows and manual execution, which limits their effectiveness in contemporary contexts
characterized by large-scale, dynamic, and cloud-native infrastructures.
This thesis analyzes the evolution of the penetration testing lifecycle in response to these
challenges. Through a critical review of existing methodologies and tools, several structural
limitations are identified, including tool fragmentation, lack of data interoperability, high
dependence on manual processes, and limited scalability. These limitations hinder the ability
of current approaches to operate effectively in environments where assets change continuously
and where large volumes of data must be processed and correlated.
In response, this work proposes an evolved penetration testing lifecycle model grounded
in three core principles: continuous operation, structured data flow, and automation-first
execution. The proposed model reorganizes the classical lifecycle into an iterative and integrated
process composed of seven phases, including continuous reconnaissance, automated
enumeration, validation and enrichment, vulnerability discovery, analysis and correlation,
and continuous reporting. Unlike traditional approaches, the model emphasizes data normalization
as a central component, enabling coherent aggregation and analysis of heterogeneous
tool outputs.
The proposed lifecycle provides a conceptual framework that aligns penetration testing
practices with modern paradigms such as DevSecOps and continuous security assessment. By
addressing the limitations of existing methodologies and formalizing the integration between
lifecycle phases, this work contributes to the development of more scalable, adaptive, and
data-driven security testing processes.***

Auteur(s): CHIALI, AKila
Résumé: Nowadays, the cybersecurity field is facing a significant dilemma caused by the exponential
evolution of cyber threat vectors. The emergence of AI-driven intrusion techniques, has
rendered traditional detection frameworks increasingly insufficient. Consequently, identifying
malicious intent now requires more than simple pattern recognition; it demands a deep understanding
of the underlying dynamics of network communication.
This thesis proposes a robust Network Intrusion Detection System (NIDS) built upon
the complexity of packet flow analogies. By leveraging Hybrid Masked Spatio-Temporal
Transformers, we redefine network traffic as a spatio-temporal volume. Unlike classical models,
our approach utilizes self-supervised learning to capture the joint evolution of internal
packet structures (spatial) and flow sequences (temporal).
Through this architecture, the model achieves a profound understanding of both historical
attack patterns and ”New” unobserved exploits. By mastering the fundamental ”Grammar” of
the network, the proposed system provides not only a solution to detect known attacks through
their signatures but also promises a scalable and adaptive resolution for Zero-Day detection.

Auteur(s): CHERRAK, ISmail ANis
Résumé: The rapid evolution of IT infrastructures and the growing sophistication of cyber threats
have made centralized security monitoring an operational necessity for modern organizations.
This thesis presents a comprehensive state-of-the-art study of Security Information
and Event Management (SIEM) systems, with a particular focus on their role in cyber attack
detection. The work begins by establishing the theoretical foundations of cybersecurity,
covering threat taxonomies, attack methodologies, and the limitations of traditional defense
mechanisms. It then reviews the generational evolution of SIEM platforms, from rule-based
aggregation to AI-driven, cloud-native architectures, and surveys key research contributions
in machine learning-based anomaly detection, User and Entity Behavior Analytics (UEBA),
alert management, and SOAR integration. A structured comparative evaluation of six widely
deployed SIEM solutions, Wazuh, Splunk Enterprise Security, FortiSIEM, Graylog, Elastic
SIEM, and Exabeam, is conducted against 47 technical criteria spanning log collection, detection,
automation, scalability, compliance, and cost. The results show that while no single
platform achieves universal superiority, Elastic Security Enterprise offers the most complete
feature coverage, while Exabeam and Graylog Enterprise lead in behavioral analytics and
cost-effectiveness respectively. The study concludes by identifying persistent research gaps
including false positive reduction at scale, model explainability, and privacy-preserving detection
architectures.***
