Abstract: Open Banking represents a major transformation in the financial sector, driven by the European PSD2 directive and the rise of the API economy. By opening financial data and enabling secure third-party access through standardized APIs, banks are reshaping their IT architectures, creating new opportunities for improvement and collaboration with fintechs. This thesis examines how API-fication driven by Open Banking reshapes banks information systems and operational models, while balancing innovation, security, and regulatory compliance. It reviews regulatory frameworks, technical standards, and organizational adoption factors, and presents a stateof- the-art analysis of the literature to assess current research and advancements in this area.
